Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter who is considered one of the most important painters of 21st century India. Born on 19 February 1939, Chowdhury lives and works in Santiniketan and graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata and subsequently from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris in 1967. After returning to India, Chowdhury has kept inspiring young artists with his contribution.
Chowdhury’s paintings are mostly in ink, water colours and pastel, although he has also created some remarkable artworks in oil medium. His artworks express a strong sense of humanity and often portray human figures interlocked in deep conversations or with a relaxed and introspective posture, reflecting Chowdhury’s deep humanistic principle. His use of lines, colours and composition gives life to his artwork, making them full of energy and optimism.
